Latin phrases.
Thirteen levels.
Government currency.
And words commonly translated along the lines of:
A NEW ORDER OF THE AGES.
If somebody deliberately designed a symbol to generate conspiracy theories for the next several centuries...
they did excellent work.

The story begins with the Great Seal of the United States.
The Continental Congress approved its final design in 1782, several years after American independence was declared.
The seal has two sides.
The obverse features the familiar American bald eagle.
The reverse features something considerably stranger:
An unfinished pyramid beneath an eye surrounded by rays of light.

Networks of influence are real.

ONE SECRET COMMITTEE RUNS EVERYTHING.
Judging by observable human coordination:
Ambitious.

No discussion of the New World Order can avoid the Illuminati.
The historical Bavarian Illuminati was real.

Modern civilization is genuinely interconnected.

A decision made in one country can affect people thousands of miles away.
To someone already suspicious of centralized power:
That can look like architecture for something larger.

NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM is a real Latin motto appearing on the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States.
The Great Seal was adopted in 1782.
The phrase was chosen by Charles Thomson and refers to the beginning of a new era associated with American independence.
It is generally translated as "a new order of the ages" or similar wording and is not literally Latin for "New World Order."
The unfinished pyramid represents strength, duration and the continuing development of the new nation, while its thirteen levels represent the original states.
The Roman numeral MDCCLXXVI identifies 1776.
The eye above the pyramid is the Eye of Providence, a symbol with religious and artistic origins predating the United States.
Both sides of the Great Seal were added to the one-dollar bill in 1935.
The Bavarian Illuminati was a real eighteenth-century secret society founded in 1776, but no credible historical evidence establishes that it secretly designed or controls the Great Seal of the United States.
Freemasonry was influential in eighteenth-century America and some founders were Freemasons, but shared symbolism does not establish that the Great Seal is a coded declaration of Masonic global control.
There is no credible evidence establishing the sweeping conspiracy claim that a single secret organization is coordinating governments, banks, corporations, international institutions and technology systems to create a unified global dictatorship.
